Is it safe to ship my classic car?

Of course it is! Classic car shipping has never been easier or more affordable, and now with new advancements in car shipping technology, you can even ship your classic car on an open transporter and not worry about dings or scratches. Classic car shipping, however, does require some special attention, so it would be wise of you to read more about classic car shipping both here and on other sites so you know exactly what you should do and how to arrange your classic car shipping to make it as safe as possible.

Even with all the new technologies out there in the car shipping field, there are still dangers when shipping your car on an open transporter, so it would be in your best interest to secure an enclosed carrier. An enclosed container is just that – a fully enclosed container that will protect your vehicle from any and all inclement weather, as well as hazardous road stuff that could get launched into your car (such as rocks and dirt, things of that nature). It’s always important to know what you’re doing and who’s shipping your vehicle, especially when you’re shipping a classic, so read up on who is shipping your car before you book.

Another great tip that you should go by is always shop around for prices. As stated earlier, what you pay for is what you get, so don’t go cheap when shipping your expensive car. Either you paid a lot for your car, or you spent a lot restoring it, so shipping it for an extra five hundred dollars shouldn’t break your wallet. Always go with the company that you feel the most comfortable with, but don’t automatically go with the cheapest – chances are, they’re lowering the price so they’ll book you, and then the vehicle won’t move.

This blog seems to be dealing with shipping within America. I work for a shipping company that exports vehicles overseas. If you are shipping your vehicle overseas, you need to do alot more research. Are they booking you with a reliable steamship line? How do they secure vehicles inside contianers? Whose providing the trucking of the container to and from the port? Where are they storing your vehicle prior to loading? How's the security at their warehouse? Will they allow you to be present at the time of loading? The size of your vehicle needs to be compared to the size of the container they are using.

In addition, research your destination. What are the import regulations for that country? For example, some countries do not allow diesel engines. What are the fees associated with import? You should be prepared for anything. Special duties due to a Middle Eastern queen to West African agents who want $50 to overlook one wrong letter in the consignee's address.

Make sure your export shipper understands the rules specific to your destination. For example, some countries only allow citizens to own one vehicle. Angola requires authorization to import in writing from their consulate in Canada. Some countries have months of congestion, so your vehicle might take a long time to arrive.

You can't ask too many questions. Your shipper should make you feel comfortable at all times with your shipment. We have shipped everything from scrap metal vehicles to $750,000 luxury sedans but every customer is important - especially in today's market.

The highest price doesn't always mean better. In the export business, a high price might mean it's a start up company who hasn't been around long enough to get a good rate. A good freight forwarder will have direct contracts and therefore lower pricing.

Shipping vehicles and Trucks is a risky business. Although many go through well, there can be some problems. But it all depends on the crews handling the cargos. When transporting, it is recommended to use RoRo transports. You can even save because you can fit any object you want transported along with your vehicle as long as it fits in!

Safe transport? It always depends on a lot of things. Like the truck driver for instance. There is no company who can assure in 100% that your car will arrive without damages. The question is: "Who will pay for the damages?". I had very good car shipping experience with MyTransportQuote. It happened once that the truck driver made some mistakes when securing the car in the truck. Three tires got wasted. In two weeks they sent me the money.

I've recently had my classic Car Servicing London and I am looking to ship it although I am nervous as apart from it's classic status it also holds sentimental value. So this gave me good food for thought. Thanks for posting.

It's picked it up and delivered it. Very good experience. Make sure they can get a big rig into wherever the vehicle is, or meet them at a walmart or something.

If you are shipping a classic car, I would definitely not go with an open air carrier. Also, it's much more important to find a shipping service you can trust that has plenty experience shipping rare, expensive cars.

Also, for classic car shipping make sure to check to see what kind of insurance is provided.
